Monkey D. Luffy versus Charlotte Katakuri is the most excited I've been for a One Piece fight in a while. I am hoping this fight actually happens and doesn't get interrupted or anything like that. The last real defining 1v1 Luffy had was all the back in Enies Lobbies against Rob Lucci. I'm not saying he hasn't had meaningful or good fights since but none of them are transcendent like that fight. He had his Impel Down to Marineford run. There was Moria, Hody, Caesar and even Doffy, though that was Law's fight more than it was Luffy's. Luffy was just there in the mixup by association. Plus, I don't think overall that that fight delivered. The crazy thing about vs Doflamingo is that Luffy was physically stronger than Doffy in Gear Fourth but Doffy used his Awakened Devil Fruit ability to fight defensively and outlast Luffy. If everyone on that Island didn't help, our heroes would've lost. Cracker was a Sweet Commander that Luffy didn't beat alone either. It took 11 hours and Nami was there to help. And then the whole Sanji thing and NOW, we're here. Luffy has to fight a Sweet Commander all by himself. In order to help the Sunny and Crew escape, Luffy took Katakuri into the Mirror World, broke the exit and now has to fight this man straight up. Katakuri fights a little similarly to Luffy, is an established pirate threat, son of an Yonkou and the greatest practitioner of Observation Haki we've seen. He can even see into the near future. If Luffy can beat him in a fair one on one fight, it would mean that Luffy is indeed strong enough to take out high ranking Yonkou members alone. Like Jack the Drought. Lastly before I wrap up this little think piece, I think it's important to note that Katakuri isn't at all underestimating Luffy. He's fully committed to stopping him right here. This fight has potential to be big and I'm excited to see how it plays out. This could be the big finish Whole Cake Island arc needs before we move on to Wano Country.

My heart just hasn't been in it for quite sometime. I find my interest and love for manga and especially anime waning by the day. I just can't be bothered, nothing seems refreshing to me, everything seems really derivative. The only anime I'm currently watching is Jojo's Bizarre Adventure Part 4 Diamond is Unbreakable. Because I've loved Jojo for years and David Productions has been doing the series justice since 2012. I tried Erased, hated it and various newer anime that just seem the fucking same. Generic, high school slice of life shit. I used to love using my free time reading manga and finding new ones to stan. Now I actively find myself avoiding them. When a new chapter of something I read comes out I roll my eyes and sigh deeply. It used to excite me. Minus about 6 series, I really don't keep up with the 100 ongoing series I'm reading. The weird part is that I don't care to. I used to be bad at dropping series now I drop them so fast. Lately I found myself wondering if the issues lies within myself or the industry. Maybe both? Shit, I don't even play video games! I'm actually outside these days, doing real things. Interacting with humans, playing sports, working out, enjoying sunlight instead of doing the right thing which is hiding in my room being a NERD. I don't know what's happening to be honest, but for the time being, I'm not going to fight it, I'm just going to roll with it, enjoy it and hopefully after a much needed break I'll be able to enjoy manga and anime again. Comics have been fine, I read em about twice a month and I know when certain games come out I'll definitely play them. But I could possibly be done with anime for ever...we'll see about manga.
My whole life I've been watching anime and reading manga so if this is something I apparently grew out of then, I wonder what I'll be doing with my free time. Cause I on't even fap no mo. Every year around this time, Alan and I search through all the manga we've read and anime we've watched and come up with a list ranking out favorites. Anime: Monogatari Manga: One Piece As of April 5th, 2016, this is currently what I'd consider to be my favorite anime and manga of all time. What are yours? Are there any anime or manga on this list you like or would be interested in checking out. Let me know! I am an adult and goddamn it, I like SEX, drama and romance when I read. Recently Korea has been putting out mature, ecchi/smut webtoons (manhwa) ... and man they are worth the read. Some are more about the art and sex but there are some that are worth the read for the plot. But if you need to 'satisfy' your needs, with great art in ALL COLOR ... I got you. The order is from least favorite to favorite but if anything, definitely peep the top 3. Full of heartbreak, romance, cheating (NTR) and filthy greatness. ********NSFW********* Woodman Dyeon and Unbalance are upcoming ecchi webtoons and Second (while not in all color) looks like it could have potential. But anyways, happy fap-reading! You can find these at http://yomanga.co/ ^^^The extra aforementioned 3.
There was a lot of excitement surrounding the upcoming Digimon Tri series. In case you’re living under a rock like Patrick Star, this new show continues the adventures of the cast of Digimon Adventures 01. The first two seasons of Digimon are connected and now Digimon Tri. Tai, Matt and the gang are all in high school now. But I’ve got to say as of right now; I’m not all that impressed. Sometimes I hate nostalgia. I don’t like when things try to win me over with nothing than other “hey remember this cool thing from when you were a kid?” I wasn’t looking for a trip down memory lane, I was hoping for a more mature story with older versions of the characters I’m fond of. Now of course, it’s only been four episodes and potentially lots could happen but, Digimon Tri so far felt like a waste of four episodes. Episode two especially, with having to watching about five of the eight Digi-destines Digimon Digivolve in one episode. The ENTIRE sequence. The animation looks more polished and it’s clean. Toei did a solid job with the presentation though I still prefer the older look over the modern one. I mean, I did enjoy seeing everyone again, it warmed my heart (I’m personally a fan of the first 3 seasons) but it’s really not that good as of yet. If this wasn’t Digimon I’d already have dropped this. I mean I fell asleep during the second episode. I’m banking on the potential that this series gradually gets better. I don’t need to relive the glory or exact same narrative as Digimon Adventure 01, I think they should take a chance and maybe introduce some new concepts. Anyways, this series needs to try harder in order to make a fan out of me.
There I was, casually surfing the interconnected web, innocently, with no particular purpose in mind, when I stumbled across two music videos. The music videos are called Me!Me!Me!, by Japanese DJ Teddyloid and the lyrics provided by Japanese artist Daoko and GIRL by Hideya Kojima feat Daoko. Reason why I even bothered to watch the video was because the name I saw aside from the aforementioned names was Hideaki Anno (known for his work in Neon Genesis Evangelion), and man, I wasn’t ready for what would come next. Japanese media company Dwango was also involved with the making of these videos as were other important people. These all all part of the weekly Japan Animator Expo. I'm a pretty smart guy. I get things. I constantly analyze, deconstruct and think critically about various things. I rarely ever just read, play or watch something without trying to get some kind of meaning out of it. That being said, super artistic surrealism tends to go way over my head, hell so does regular art. But I actually understood these two videos really well (at least I want to think I did) even though they were weird and trippy. Before you continue to read on, please watch these two videos with the link provided below. Watch ME!ME!ME! before GIRL (you can skip about 1:30 into the videos to skip to the actual music video): Me!Me!Me!: http://animatorexpo.com/mememe/ GIRL: http://animatorexpo.com/girl/ Hey welcome back from having your minds thoroughly fucked from these "2deep4u" music videos. BUT, more importantly than the probable initial confusion, what did you get out of watching these? Because there was a lot of symbolism, powerful imagery and criticism of Japanese culture ALL UP IN THAT BITCH. Let's start with ME!ME!ME!. Shuu is in a relationship with Hana, but Shuu is an Otaku and a hardcore one at that. He chooses the 2D world over the real one. Shuu is happily living a fantasy until reality comes for him. He realizes that he shouldn't have chosen his destructive lifestyle of anime, gaming and hentai over his girlfriend. And tries to get her back. He ultimately fails and the video loops back to the first scene essentially. Shuu lying there, lifeless, addicted to this Otaku lifestyle. In a never ending cycle. The video is extremely symbolic and feels quite like an acid trip if I do say so myself. The imagery is extremely explicit and borderline pornographic, using imagery of naked women to allude to Shuu's addiction to hentai. Their nipples and nether regions are all connected by piercing which to me signifies that Shuu is "plugged" in to this life (too much digital life). It also looks like the dancing women are trapped in cages, also alluding to him being trapped in a destructive lifestyle. Towards the end when he starts to fight back against his bad habits, you see him shooting at the nude women. The scene where "Evil Hana" comes out the TV and barfs into his mouth reminds me a lot of Japanese mythology due to the fact that sometimes life was given through regurgitation and defecation. All in all, I'd say that this was a strong message about becoming overly addicted to anything, and that you should enjoy real life as much as possible. Moving on to GIRL, this is another great social commentary on Japanese society. Ultimately, these type of issues can probably be applied to multiple places, not just Japan. This, "sequel" has a more psychedelic look to it and is visually pleasing to the senses. Much less "naughty" than Me!Me!Me!, but there is artist perversion and slight objectification. Ever heard of enjo kosai? It's called compensating dating and it's where older men give money and gifts to younger women in return for companionship and in most cases, sexual favors. This girl is experiencing her sexual awakening and has been looking for meaning in compensated relationships. But, she can't find any. She then tries to create her own world and even partner. But none of these things work. You see a visualization of her perfect prince but...it's unrealistic. You see her take a bite from the forbidden fruit (though the Bible never actually says it's an apple, that is the fruit it's usually associated with) but she spits it out. The fruit from the Garden of Eden is said to offer knowledge and truth, but she spits it out, almost as if...she is rejecting these things. She becomes a sexualized magical girl and throughout the video you see tons of makeup and fashionable accessories often associated with women and beauty. Almost as if there's a feminist undertone here. I could also be perverted but I saw a lot of VAGINAS. VAGINA STUFF EVERYWHERE. The ending was powerful and connects to the first video where we see Shuu and Hana holding hands. This has made it unclear whether or not this is a prequel or sequel, and part of me wonders if the blue hair girl is Meme-Chan (the blue haired girl from Me!Me!Me!). After the magical girl shows that men are empty and heartless underneath, and creating what I assume is the forbidden tree and ends up back at the beginning. There, she sees her prince and is seen smiling. I could go on and tell you all the things I've found in these videos but I want to see what you guys thought about the videos, if you had any at all besides immense confusion. http://animatorexpo.com/mememe/
http://animatorexpo.com/girl/ Me!Me!Me! Remix: http://animatorexpo.com/mememechronic/ Because 2D girls are love. 2D girls are life. I have so many gifs/pics and I needed something to do with them lol. I'll probably occasionally add more sexy anime girl gifs to this so check back often, hehe. #WaifuForLaifus
I realized I've done several manga lists and none for anime. So it was about that time. Here's 36 random anime (random meaning from any era, genre, demographic) I believe is at least worth a fair chance: All these anime have something going for them. Whether it's the characters, music, plot, aesthetics, or a combination of them all. Give them a try if you haven't already!
Side Note: I know a lot of these anime have multiple seasons and what not, so I've provided MaL links for you to use. You may or may not know that for various reasons, the anime industry is slowly struggling. Personally, I’ve exhausted the medium for the most part and honestly, I haven’t really been watching anime of late. But this fall season brought the final installment of my favorite anime series: Owarimonogatari of the Monogatari series. If you know me well this may come as a bit of a shock to you. Usually when I speak of anime or manga favorites, it’s always One Piece. Well, I have a bit of a confession to make. One Piece while still my favorite piece of art and literature ever and my favorite manga of all time, it’s not my favorite anime anymore. Not even close. It’s been Monogatari for about two and a half years. Toei Animation simply isn’t doing the One Piece manga justice any longer. Monogatari is clever, well written, written by a genius, it’s got an interesting premise, strong characters with depth and visually stunning animation. Monogatari is also my favorite light novel series along with A Certain Magical Index. Mongatari is a light novel series that has an anime adaptation animated by Shaft. It’s written by Nisio Isin who’s also the author of Medaka Box, Katanagatari, Zaregoto and Death Note Another Note: the Los Angeles BB Murder Cases. The man is a brilliant writer and I’m a fan of a lot of his work. Medaka Box is one of my all-time favorite manga and his Death Note light novel was phenomenal (also the first ‘light novel’ I ever read). I was able to read the first two volumes of Zaregoto a few years ago and I was enjoying it. Katanagatari however I was unable to find the light novel in French or English, so I only watched the anime and it was fantastic. Getting back on topic, the series is cleverly constructed because it’s in good hands. The dialogue is fun and super entertaining. The way the characters interact with one another is such a riot. It’s silly, it’s funny and there are tons of smart Japanese idioms, puns and play on words present in the conversations. Isin’s knowledge of the Japanese language is so proficient that it’s literally impossible to translate a good portion of these clever quips into English. So much of what’s being said is lost in translation. The character names are also funny, punny names. The entire premise of the show is majorly intriguing. It’s quite difficult to explain without going into detail. The franchise is very much a “read it or watch it for yourself” type of narrative. The world of Monogatari is filled with supernatural, other worldly creatures and phenomenons. That includes: time travel, parallel earths, ghosts, vampires, items from mythology or folklore and even people who combat/deal with these forces. You can call them ghostbusters or exorcists of sorts. These oddities or apparitions have several reasons for afflicting the real world and the people in it. Reasons stemming from intense emotions like prolonged hatred. That could cause a distortion in the world or cause the person of your hatred to become afflicted with some curse. The first example in the series is when the main character meets a girl who’s weightless. She doesn’t weight anything at all. Araragi Koyomi, a relatively normal high schooler has his regular daily life come to an end when he encounters some supernatural beings. After the end of said ordeal he essentially becomes a vampire. Using his little experience with apparitions, powers and sense of justice, Koyomi attempts to help people with oddities. Separated into mini story arcs and character arcs. The story is not told in chronological order. That’s the best I can do without spoiling major plot points. This show has great characters, the cast is truly superb. I openly admit a lot of the female characters are a bit gimmicky, designed for waifu wars and merchandising. That being said though, most of them still have a lot of depth. Araragi is a good lead for the show as I find him to be entertaining and he shows more of his true self as time progresses. I also find him to be secretly relatable. He’s a pervert in every sense of the word. I mean this guy has several complexes and even molests ghosts. But at the end of the day, he’s a decent guy who would do anything for his friends and family. Two personal favorite characters of mine are Kiss-Shot Acerola-Orion Heart-Under-Blade (Shinobu Oshino) and Hitagi Senjougahara. Without spoiling much, Shinobu is a cool character and comes in all stages of growing up. There’s loli, form, teenage form and the older busty one. She’s got a long and rich history. Her character has layers of complexity and her relationship with the main character is interesting. Oh, she’s also a vampire, the best vampire ever. Hitagi is like the ideal girlfriend in my humble opinion. As the internet would say, “relationship goals.” She's pretty crazy, but she's self-aware of it and her boyfriend knows it and accepts that part of her. She's a very strange character that gives off multiple character traits but ultimately you’d classify her as a tsundere. Senjougahara is very interesting to watch and listen to speak due to her outlook on life and mannerisms. "I'm not an ally of justice. Just and enemy to evil." She has had a pretty semi rough past having her family damaged and broken up by a certain man. She would go out of her way to protect her boyfriend and that includes locking him up to keep him safe or talking to the man she hates most to find a way to keep him out of harm's way. Shaft Inc.! How I love this studio. Shaft is known for their eccentric artistry and crazy head tilts. Not to mention certain popular anime such as Gourmet Girl Graffiti, Nisekoi, Puella Magica Madoka, Negima, Mekakucity Actors and even helped animate the Palutena Character Trailer for Super Smash Bros for the Wii U (and 3DS). The various Monogatari anime are insanely visually pleasing and stimulating. Lots of poetic imagery and interesting events happening on screen. Nisio's narratives tend to be dialogue heavy but expect to always be visually entertained even when nothing of note is happening. However, don’t take everything you see literal as a lot of it is symbolic. The series is well directed with magnificent cinematography, nice colours, beautiful looking characters and great action scenes. It is clean, colorful and vibrant. Listen, the Monogatari series isn’t for everyone. A lot of the dialogue is circular, the conversations are often purely for entertainment purposes. Sometimes the conversations don’t go anywhere. That and maybe some of the ecchi scenes may be what turns away some viewers/readers and I get it. That being said, I definitely think the series is deserving of a fair chance. There’s good action, great animation, fantastic characters, clever writing, interesting dialogue and an interesting premise. Please give it a try and let me know what you think of it!
P.S: The watch order is Bakemonogatari, Kizumonogatari Nisemongatari, Nekomonogatari Kuro, Monogatari Season 2, Hanamonogatari, Tsukimonogatari, Owarimongatari and Owarimonogatari Season 2. Q: How are you on this fine day? Nya: I’m breathing. Q: That’s good, air’s cool. So, you’re a big anime guy huh? Nya: Once upon a time, I was always more of a manga guy though. I love reading. Q: So then you prefer manga over anime? Nya: Generally speaking, yes. I like to experience narratives in their original medium. Lots of anime are adaptations of manga, similar to how Hollywood adapts novels and comic books. Q: Makes sense, so what if it’s an anime original? Nya: In that case I’m much more likely to watch it. Toppa Tengen Gurren Lagann, Puella Magica Madoka and Psycho -Pass are examples of solid anime originals. Cyberpunk is life... Q: So do you not like adaptations? Nya: I like some. I used to enjoy them a lot more when I was younger but now I find that a lot of the anime don’t do that manga justice. I personally just prefer to get my content of a narrative from its canon, source material. However, I do think some adaptations do the source material justice and in some cases, surpass it. Q: Can you give use some examples? Nya: Okay, well the Hunter x Hunter (2011) anime is leagues better than the manga. Togashi is a brilliant writer but personally, I don’t think he’s the greatest artist. I’ve read a lot of the Monogatari light novels and truth be told, I like the anime so much more. I have yet to see an anime or manga adapt a visual novel better but some like Steins;Gate and Fate/stay Night do it justice. Q: Well while we’re somewhat on the topic of visual novels and light novels, do you play and read many? Nya: Yes, I do. Visual novels are amongst my favorite type of game to play. When it comes to light novels I can’t say I’m an expert but I’ve read my fair share of them. Accel World, A Certain Magical Index, No Game No Life, Monogatari etcetra. Q: Would you say you like visual novels/light novels as much as manga? Maybe more? Nya: Visual novels yes, light novels I’m a little pickier and less experienced. So for light novels, no. Q: Okay so, you know we had to ask. Top 5 anime of all time (to date). Nya: Haha of course. Um. Off the top of my head I’d go with Monogatari, Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure, Psycho-Pass, Ergo Proxy and D-Frag. I don’t think these are particularly the best anime, just my favorites. Probably. Q: Same question, but manga. Go. Nya: One Piece, Monster, Gintama, Medaka Box and Blade of the Immortal. Also, just my personal favorites though One Piece is the best. Don’t argue with me. Q:Some interesting picks, if you could only watch one anime and read one manga for the rest of your life, which two would you choose? Nya: One Piece…twice. Q: You...must really like One Piece.. Nya: Would literally die without it in my life. Literally. Q: What anime are you currently watching right now? Nya: Nothing really, but I plan on finishing Gatchaman Crowds Insight and Durarara. One Piece and Daiya no Ace are also there in the background. I download them every week but I don't watch them. I mean, I purchase them legally. Q: Any upcoming anime you’re excited for this fall? Nya: Aside from Owarimonogatari I can’t say I’m excited for anything else. I’ll watch One Punch-Man most likely and check out some of the movies but nothing on the fall list really has my attention. If I have time, I’ll fish through the list for any hidden gems. Maybe. Q: How about any new and or upcoming manga? Anything catch you eye? Nya: The creators of Death Note and Bakuman are teaming up again for a manga called Platinum End. I’m pretty stoked, it's about an angel and a human I believe. Another one is called Fire Brigade of Flames, Atsushi Ōkubo. The mangaka for Soul Eater is back with a story about firefighting. Q: Interesting stuff, I’ll be sure to check those out too. Favorite genres? Nya: Physiological thriller and romance. Preferably seinen or josei but I’m not against shojou or shounen although those are demographics, not genres. Q: Cool cool cool. Let’s talk characters. What anime/manga characters do you like or find outstanding? Nya: Some that come to mind are Gilgamesh, Kuchiki Byakuya, Griffith and Luffy. I could sit here and talk about notable characters from these mediums all day but I really don’t want to do that so I’ll go with my favorite one. Kujira Kurokami a.k.a Naze Youka (Medaka Box). She’s been my favorite character for years. I like her design, her thematic role, her powers and love for despair. Despair is love, despair is life. Q: Weirdo…what do you look for in particular when trying to find new manga or anime to pick up? Nya: Honestly at this point, I’m just looking for something refreshing. Creativity, originality and innovation. Everything is derivative, so at the very least subvert some of the tropes and staples I’m used to seeing, and you’ve got yourself a fan. Aside from that I need good characters and a solid plot. Q: I see..I see. I personally find that aside from Ghibli movies, anime fans don' t watch a lot of anime movies. How about you? Nya: I like anime movies more than anime series at this point. I've seen so many I almost made a top 50 list the other day. Anime movies are great because the animation is generally cleaner and you can wrap up the story in one movie (unless it's a series of movies). It's less of a commitment and you can rewatch it without having to sit through like 26 episodes. Q: I never thought of it that way before..intriguing. What are some the anime films you find most memorable? Nya: Most memorable would be the movie I grew up with. Kiki's Delivery Service. I've been watching that movie for 22 years. Tokyo Godfathers is my favorite anime movie and one of my favorite movies in general. Wolf Children is a powerful tale about some trials and tribulations of motherhood; I found that movie to be exceptional. Anything from Shikai Makoto and Comix Wave Films is solid. One Piece Strong World and Film Z were great, I loved From Up on Poppy's Hill. And then we have some classics like Angel's Egg, Ghost in the Shell and Spriggan! Man I could sit here all day and do this. Lastly I wanna give a shoutout to Sword of the Stranger and Paprika. Q: Lastly we wanna fire some questions at you in quick succession and you have to answer them as quickly and concisely as you can. Are you ready?
Nya: I AM quick an concise. Q: What? Nya: I'm ready. Q: Best anime studio? Nya: Ufotable, Madhouse or Comix Wave Films. Q: Best mangaka? Nya: Eiichiro Oda. Q: Most overrated anime you've seen? Nya: Kill La Kill. Q: Underrated anime? Nya: Mawaru Penguindrum. Q: Most annoying character ever? Nya: Komatsu from Toriko. Q: Character you'd be friends with? Nya: Any relatively normal character? I don't know. Q: Come on pick one. Nya: Tetsuya Yuuki? Q: Character you wouldn't get along with. Nya: Sasuke Uchiha. Q: What anime world would you live in? Nya: Any that has modern technology without being insanely dangerous? Q: ... Nya: Katekyo Hitman Reborn? Q: Anime ability you' wa- Nya: Ope Ope no Mi. Q: Whoa! Ultimate waifu? You get one. Nya: Naze Youka. Q: You're in a harem, aside from Naze, name six girls. Nya: Shinobu Oshino, Roka Shinasaki, Akane Tendo, Nico Robin, Misaka Mikoto and I guess Dal Dal Choi. Q: Last one. You get to bring back one manga or anime back. Which do you choose. Nya: Yuyu Hakusho. Q: And that concludes our interview, thanks for coming on! Nya: Thanks for making thousands of weebs out there mad at me lol. |
