Q: Why hello there.
Nya: Sup.
Q: Nothing much, just ready to ask you some cartoon and comic related questions.
Nya: Go for it.
Q: How much of a comic book fan would you consider yourself?
Nya: I’m a huge comic book nerd though I admit I’ve been a little slack lately. It’s feeling a bit stale in the superhero comic department.
Q: Well what have you been reading and keeping up with?
Nya: Mostly DC, Image and some Humanoids comics’ material. Gotham Academy, Batgirl, We Are Robin, Cyborg, Rat Queens, Deadly Class, Morning Glories, Wayward, Technopriests, Clockwerx, The Incal, Sky Doll etc. There’s so much to name but there’s a few.
Q: I noticed there weren’t really any Marvel titles in there, why?
Nya: I’ve fallen behind in Marvel comics for about two years now and I just pick and choose certain series to keep with. I blame this on being extremely satisfied with watching Marvel content on the big screen. The MCU is phenomenal.

Q: What’s your favorite Marvel movie?
Nya: Captain America: The Winter Soldier. Easily.
Q: How about DC while we’re at it?
Nya: I am going with an unpopular opinion, but I’m going to say Man of Steel despite how extraordinary the Christopher Nolan Dark Knight Trilogy is. I also love Watchmen.
Q: The Dark Knight Trilogy is DC’s biggest success on the big screen. Which movie of that trilogy is your favorite and how excited are you to see the upcoming DC movies?
Nya: Batman Begins along with Ironman. I find them to be the most well done superhero origin story in a live action movie. Most people say the Dark Knight because of the Joker but, while it’s a great movie, I feel that the Joker carried that movie to it’s maximum potential. While Batman Begins is just a great movie overall, in every aspect. I am insanely excited for Suicide Squad, Batman v Superman and the upcoming DCU. I really want to see my DC heroes and villains on the big screen. I want to see DC and Marvel go at it in cinema, I think it’ll be great. I just hope DC doesn’t mess this up. I am very excited for Task Force X though, I want to see Jared Leto in action.
Q: That’s fair, cool stuff, I hope Leto performs well too. Marvel is entering it’s Phase 3 soon, any particular movie there you find note-
Nya: Doctor Strange. Doctor Strange. Doctor Strange. Doctor Strange.

Q: Okay then haha, what comic book events would you like to see animated or done live action?
Nya: I was impressed with DC’s animated movie on the Court of Owls. So I’m hoping they maybe animate the Rise of the Third Army and the First Lantern. Geoff Johns did some great work with those and I need more DC space stuff. Avengers vs X-Men could generate a lot of money and hype if Marvel and Fox could band together to make that happen. There’s more I’d enjoy but, the thing about these Hollywood movies is that they need to cater to both comic book nerds and them regular folk. So if we go too deep into the lore and certain events, it would require too much foreknowledge.
Q: That’s true, very true. What superhero character do you think needs their own TV Show and or movie?
Nya: I would like a Blue Beetle movie and a Martian Manhunter one. I think MM could also work as a show. As for Marvel I’d go with a proper, good representation of Doctor Doom. The populous needs to learn and understand how awesome he truly is. A while ago I would have told you Flash, Ms Marvel and characters like Black Panther but Flash has his own show now and some of those characters are on the way. We’re seeing a massive expansion of the DC TV universe. Vixen even got a cartoon.
Q: Anything else you’d like to say about DC and or Marvel related stuff before we movie on?
Nya: Renew Young Justice for season 3, watch Arrow, Flash and Daredevil …um … and watch Justice League Gods and Monsters.
Q: Moving away from the superhero stuff, are there any other graphic novels or comics maybe deserving of a series, similar to the Walking Dead maybe?
Nya: Morning Glories could work really well as a live action TV show with all the drama and twists. I would just hope they stick to the comic’s canon. Rat Queen’s was said to be getting a cartoon and I’m waiting to see some truth to that. Lady Mechanika could be a great movie, you could really push and sell the steampunk shtick and personally I just need a Deadly Class something. Movie, TV, cartoon, anime, SOMETHING. I’ll even take a Deadly Class video game.
Q: Really good stuff. Let’s move away from that and talk about some good ol’ fashion cartoons. What are some cartoons you’re watching?
Nya: Christ um ... Star Wars Rebels, Star vs the Forces of Evil, Rick & Morty, South Park, Adventure Time, Bee and Puppycat, Regular Show, We Bare Bears, Amazing World of Gumball, Bravest Warriors, Steven Universe, Archer, Gravity Falls and there’s always time to re-watch Avatar. Korra and Last Airbender. I feel like I missed tons others but that’s life. Oh, Avengers Assemble and I show a lot of my friends Over the Garden Wall.

Q: That’s quite the load, are any of those your favorite?
Nya: Um..some of them I like a lot and they could become favorites but as for my favorite cartoon, it’ll always be Charlie Brown. Peanuts the Movie coming soon folks!
Q: That’s really unexpected. How are you finding contemporary cartoons?
Nya: Adventure Time sparked an age and era of shows inspired by it. Some of the staff of Adventure Time even left to make their own shows. I find that there is a pool of competent cartoons being made. They have also been pretty influenced by anime I would say. Especially some like Steven Universe, Avatar and RWBY. Avatar and RWBY are so anime-esque that lots of people don’t consider them cartoons. Boondocks caused this confusion as well.
Q: Why do you think that’s the case?
Nya: Anime fans are really defensive and picky about their little niche. I mean it all depends on how you define anime, because in Japan, they just consider anything animated to be anime. It’s elsewhere where we divide it up and make this distinction between them. I get both sides, it doesn’t bother me that much but I am a category guy, it helps me separate the different parts of my life so I can easily access them. But for me, RWBY is a web series heavily influenced by anime and Avatar in aesthetics is anime influence but everything else is from other parts of Asia. From the names to the martial arts.
Q: Did you watch a lot of cartoons growing up
Nya: Indeed.
Q: Name us some childhood shows and or movies you watched.
Nya: Well there were obviously the various Disney movies, especially Pinocchio. I watched Rugrats, Pippylong Stocking, Magic School Bus, Rocket Power, Reboot, Pepperann, Bobby’s World, The Real Ghostbusters, Carebears, Arthur, Detention, PB J & Otter, Ned’s Newt, Resue Heroes, Garfield, Inspector Gadget, Recess, The Weekenders…dude. Don’t make me do this, I watched A LOT of shows, let’s just go with that.
Q: Alright ... alright fair. What your favorite Disney movie?
Nya: Tarzan.
Q: Why?
Nya: Music, content, context, characters and the tree surfing thing was the coolest thing I had ever seen at one point.
Q: Is there anything else you’d like to say or add?
Nya: Hmm, nothing much.
Q: Take care.
Nya: I’ll think about it.
