This one has been a long time coming. I didn't want to go overboard and suggest like like 30 of them so I'll start with the ones that are my favourite. I think China is doing great things, I've been enjoying their animated content since 2018/19. And with further ado, let us begin! I hope you guys give some of these films and shows a fair shake. Let me know what y'all think if you've already peeped some of these and if you like any of them, lemme know!

Keep in mind that not all webtoons are from Korea. Naver/Line Webtoons has a monopoly on webtoons and is the most popular site to publish them but there are tons of web-comics and webtoons around the world. Some of them being published independently. I lowkey think on average they are just like a fun little read but there are a few I have high opinions on. These are currently my favorite 20 Webtoons. Also this WILL include smut. And that's the list! And it's obviously objectively correct so don't argue with me (kidding)! Y'all take care and read Kubera. Read it now.
I will eventually make a list compiling the various superhero comics from Marvel and DC y'all you be reading or should have already read. Until I get around to that, I thought I'd suggest some other great comics that aren't superhero related. TIME FOR A LIST. These are probably my favorite comic book characters as of right now. End list.
CALM DOWN BATSTANS. Put that Batarang away and let me explain. First and foremost, I understand that Detective Comics is a business. As a business the most important thing to companies is making money. That is a fact of life applicable to just about any industry. There are mouths to feed, you need money to fund things and thus, its all about the Benjamin's. Batman SELLS, he is popular and DC is just doing its job. But for me personally I am very, very tired of having Batman forced down my throat. My history with Batman has been rocky. As a kid I liked Batman, then I hated Batman, then I did not like Batman but respected him and then I liked him again. And truth be told, I STILL like Batman, I mean he has never been one of my favorites or anything but I like him. I am just tired of Bruce Wayne. Too many comic books with Batman, aside from the Lego games and Injustice, only Batman gets games and these animated movie. Christ. Batman, Batman, Batman, Justice League Dark but um with Batman. You have got to be kidding me. What ultimately worries me about this is what happens that day Batman stops working? Maybe something controversial happens that causes a group of people to see Batman as a symbol of something negative or maybe popularity just dwindles. How on Earth do they plan to move forward? They need more characters in the spotlight and it is time to take some chances and give unpopular characters a shot in the lime light.
DC has so many wonderful characters that are being neglected while Batman is just in any and all things DC, half the time I don't even want to bother because I know at some point it'll become the Batman show. Bruce Wayne train. Marvel has been in my honest opinion a mess the last couple of years, which is why I hardly read them but with DC its because I'm sick of Batman. I hope they do something about this eventually. Been awhile since I've updated my blog. I just want to talk about a certain scene in Suicide Squad that meant a lot to me. Now before I talk about it, I want to state that I'm fully aware of all the issues Suicide Squad went through after the backlash of Batman v Superman Dawn of Justice. And while this movie wasn't perfect, I had a great time both times I went to see it. If you want to read my review on the movie check it out here: www.blerdsonline.com/2016/08/suicide-squad-enjoyable-mayhem.html I found the Harley Quinn and Joker dynamic to be intriguing. In case you didn't know, Joker and Harley do not have a some deranged, lovey-dovey relationship. From her introduction in the 1992 Batman the Animated Series, to the comics and even the Batman Arkham video games series, the Joker has only ever used and abused Harley. He's never really loved her. He beats her and verbally abuses her all the time. He has always only seen her as an occasionally useful tool. Even in this movie, originally, they were going to depict this version of their relationship but instead went a different route. The Joker seems to genuinely care about Quinn in this film. Even Amanda Waller says, "God help anyone who disrespects [his] queen." The subplot of this movie is Joker trying to get Harley back. This is new and I find it interesting because it actually gives the Joker some sort of twisted humanity. The Joker to me has always been an irredeemable, self aware, high functioning psychopath and a homicidal maniac. He's always challenged moral conventions by getting people to abandon their ethical and moral compasses. To take the upstanding and stain them by having them descend into anarchy. To essentially prove that anyone can be as fucked up as The Joker if they have just one-bad-day. But let me not get into the Joker's psyche and thematic role and talk about my favorite scene. My favorite part of the movie is when the Joker and Dr Harleen Quinzel are at the Ace Chemical Plant, the place where "The Joker" was created. Very briefly, let me explain this for those who don't know because several people have asked me about this particular scene. The Joker's abnormally pale skin and green hair are a result of him falling into a specific batch of chemicals at Ace Chemical Plant. Not makeup, war paint or just how he looks naturally. I know a lot of you guys are only familiar with Heath Ledger's depiction of the Joker from the Dark Knight Returns so I thought I'd explain that for those who don't know. So, Joker brings psychiatrist, Dr. Harleen Quinzel to the plant and asks her some questions: Question, would you die for me? “Yes” That’s too easy, would you...Would you live for me? “Yes” Careful,do not say this oath thoughtlessly. Desire become surrender, surrender become power. I interpreted this quote differently both times I heard it. Initially I thought it was kind of dumb. How could living for someone be harder than dying for them? "Desire become surrender, surrender become power." I thought he was saying, if you desire to be with me you must surrender yourself to me and by doing so you'll gain power over me. Which I thought was weird, kind of like how some say submissives in a BDSM relationship actually have more power over the dominator. That the masochist actually controls the sadist. The second time I watched it, it meant something completely different. "Would you live for me", became would you devote your life to me? Would you give up your own wants and needs for my selfish desires? She says, "yes". Yes I'd do anything for you, yes I'd sacrifice my life for you and yes, I will give in to your way of life. And I got goosebumps. I was taken back a bit. "Desire becomes surrender, surrender become power." That to me the second time around meant, if you really want this you have to surrender your sanity for power. Because by relinquishing your mental stability and not caring about the rules or laws that man has created you can gain true power. See their ethics for the joke that it really is, see how truly fragile their morality is. And I thought that was very powerful. He was trying to let her in on the "joke." It doesn't stop there. After all that, she then takes a leap of faith into the dangerous chemicals below and the Joker starts to leave. He was ready to leave her there, be on his way and then seems VISIBLY frustrated by the idea that he actually cares about her. He takes off a layer of his clothing and jumps in after her. From the chemical submergence, Dr Harleen Quinzel is no more, and from underneath the surface of this dangerous waste rises: Harley Quinn. She is reborn.
So personally that scene really hit me, it's easily my favorite part of the movie. The idea of Joker being in love is still something I'm getting used to but if the DCEU is going to properly explore this, then I am on board one hundred percent. Let's see if the Clown Prince and Princess can paint the world in despair together. <3 DC, I have been impressed lately. Lately I peep Marvel and DC stuff more so for the sake of not getting left behind. Not because I was enjoying stuff. I'm more of an Image guy, they have some of the most quality comics I've ever had the pleasure of experiencing but I'm getting off topic. From Batman v Superman (yes I fucking LOVED it FUCK YOU), to The Flash TV show, Suicide Squad hype, Injustice 2 and DC REBIRTH, my love for the publishing company is back. DC just keeps hitting me with good new. Gym Gordon (J.K Simmons playing an old, brawling Commissioner Gordon), and Geoff Johns taking up an important leadership role in DC. Nothing but good news. While I'm not a big fan of the Killing Joke, that's exciting and I heard we'll be getting a Justice League Dark animated film. CRAZY SIYACK. *Ice King voice* Starting with Batman v Superman Ultimate Edition, I'm stoked to see the whole movie. I feel like the movie will be more coherent, flow better and expand upon the motivations of certain characters. I could tell from the theatrical release that a lot was cut from the movie, just like I could when I watched Age of Ultron. Flash Season 2 ended off really good, we might be getting a CW take of one of the various Crisis and/or FLASHPOINT. Excited as a mother lover for the third season. Unfortunately I don't care for Arrow much and DC Legend's of Tomorrow is just okay to me. Since seeing the SDCC promo for Suicide Squad, for better or worse I put my whole heart and soul into that movie. I believe in it wholeheartedly. I think it's going to be the 'comic book' movie of 2016. I really can't wait. Injustice was my favorite fighting game ever, so I am insanely excited. I wanna see the roster ad new things they add to the combat. The story intrigues me and so does this armor business. DC Rebirth has been incredible so far. They kept was was working with the New 52 and brought back was used to worked pre flashpoint. That includes Wally West, killing New 52 Superman and bringing back pre-crisis Superman. Oliver and Dinah are exploring their love interest and Oliver has his older iconic look back. It really is a good time to be a DC fan.
Killing Joke brings Conroy and Hamill back in their roles as Batman and Joker to bring the incident that paralyzes Barbara Gordon. I personally wasn't a huge fan of this run, mostly because I don't like what Joker did to Batgirl (one of my favorite characters). I never reread it. It's going to be hard for me to watch. But Justice League Dark will expose a side of dark magic and magic user in the DC Universe that most people don't know about. John Constantine is a fantastic character that needs more spotlight. DC is also doing some cool stuff with their Vertigo imprint, and Preacher did get a tv show. Keep it up DC. Overall, as corny as Flash can be at times, it's a great show. It doesn't shy away from diving straight into the character's mythos and speed related content. It's fast paced ... I like that. It does suffer having annoying characters and episodes I consider to be filler, but its been a great ride. This latest episode that we've had to wait two weeks for is by far the dumbest episode I've watched so far. I'm so upset at this episodes I almost don't want to talk about it. But I can't ignore this. First let's just quickly recap the events. Actually, no, fuck it. Let's just talk about the stupidity. Barry has the tachyon device on him thus making him faster (he goes to Supergirl's world and comes back). This doesn't feel right. Instead of him growing to properly harness the Speedforce, it feel like our hero is cheating. But anyways, with it on, he's faster than Zoom. So what does Barry do? IMMEDIATELY challenge Zoom and GIVES away his element of surprise. That he's faster now. After leading Zoom into Star Labs (why would Zoom follow him there) Barry manages to incapacitate him. Yayyy. NO.
Zoom escapes and steals Wally. He wants to trade Barry's speed for Wally's life. Barry immediately gives in to the plan and it's not even like it's an exchange. Zoom GIVES them Wally back. Yes. You heard me. Before even taking Flashes power, Zoom actually releases Wally. Then Wells explains that Flash has to run on the treadmill with this device thingy drains his speed. So let's recap. Barry is faster than Zoom. Yes. Barry has Wally back. Yes. To even lose his powers he has to willing run his speed into nothingness. Now, what hero in their right mind who has all the advantages willingly discard their powers? What? Barry then goes, loses his powers, Zoom injects them like a druggie, gets faster and then takes away Caitlyn after she tries appealing to the "good" in him. This is our reward after two breaks. Utter fucking shit. Next episode he has no damn power so that's going to be fucking boring as shit too. I'm tired of Barry being an idiot, give Wally his powers and let's see if he's any bloody smarter. Now that I've seen The Force Awakens more than four times and have had some time to digest the movie, I think it's time to talk about some theories, speculations, predictions and inquires we may have about the movie (and franchise). Also note that not only have I seen all seven movies numerous times, I've also read tons of Star Wars Legends comics (previous known as the Expanded Universe), I have completed Clone Wars and I am caught up in Star Wars Rebels. All of which make up the current Star Wars canon so, possible spoilers for those, you've been warned. If you've seen my review of Episode 7, you'll know that I really enjoyed it, though by no means was it perfect. I want to discuss some of the things I noticed and things I'm wondering about after having seen it so many times. One thing I've never liked about Star Wars is how inconsistent it is and how the power ranking/scaling is just as bad as your typical Shounen Jump manga. But I digress, let's jump right in. How strong was Kylo Ren in actuality? Originally, I feel like a lot of us may have overestimated how powerful he truly was (not to say he was weak though). Kylo was trained by Luke for a bit and then Snoke. However, Luke isn't particularly a great Jedi, his Force sensitivity is off the charts, but he has very little formal training. This is a world that hasn't really seen any true Jedi for nearly 70 years. A lot of knowledge has been lost over the ages and I found that evident in the movie. Canonically, Luke hasn't preformed any incredible Force feats and his Lightsaber skills were sub-par at the end of Return of the Jedi. Even Phantom Menace Obi-Wan is a more capable duelist than Episode 6 Luke. So knowing that, I came to the conclusion that in a sense, since there are no Jedi to train him properly, there's no way he could have been a great Master. There's also so little people in the galaxy who have any Force training and those who do have to start from scratch. So with that in mind, unless Snoke truly IS Darth Plagius, Snoke should be a new generation "Sith" as well ... meaning he also isn't trained the way we are used to seeing. Say what you will about the first 3 Episodes, but a lot of the Jedi are a lot more skilled with a Lightsaber than Luke ever was and anyone in Episode 7. Kylo Ren and Rey included. These Force sensitive people are strong but only in an era with no properly trained Force Users of any side. Comparatively, the potential is greater than it's ever been, but they are all unpolished. Bringing it back to Ren, the first thing we see is his Force TK (Telekinesis) prowess. Able to hold a blaster shot in mid air for minutes, with only his mind while talking to other people. We see him sense something wrong with Finn, feel the presence of his father and even using Mind Probing. He even overwhelms Rey in almost every instance they met except twice. First of all, I believe Rey is stronger than Ren, there's little reason to believe otherwise. But Ren is much older and better trained so I was taken back those two times she overpowered him. Even though at the end, he was in emotional turmoil and wounded from Chewbacca and Finn, I thought he shouldn't have lost. There's arguments for both sides and even though shit like that just happens in Star Wars I thought of something. Who has Ren ever had to fight that was near or on his level? Sure, he can Mind Probe Poe, and Rey before she understood how strong she was but he's probably never had to face off versus someone as powerful as him. Snoke even tells him, "even you, master of the Knights of Ren have never faced a task like this before". I believe he was not only talking about Han Solo, but Rey. If you watch the fight again, look at the moment Rey focuses, feels the Force and starts believing. Ren after tanking the first stab begins to doubt himself (afraid of not being Vader) and at that moment the battle was lost. He takes a frustrated, undisciplined swing at Rey, leaving him open. Undisciplined, disorderly and uncontrolled. Those things define Ren. Down to his Lightsaber which is crackling and looks like at anytime it might stop working, yet, menacing. Unlike Rey who is holding Luke's Saber that has a nice, confident, clean beam coming out from the base of the Lightsaber. So how powerful is Rey? Is she too strong? Too perfect? She's a gifted pilot, competent fighter, mechanic, great shot with a blaster, extremely Force sensitive and was able to use the Jedi Mind Trick with no prior training. In a lot of ways, I see in her what Anakin should have been in the prequels. He should have had her natural talent, mixed with the multi-dimensional character depth of Kylo. But anyways ... On Jakku, Rey has become proficient with a staff but does that translate well into Lightsaber wielding? Should she have been able to beat Ren like that? Ren was clearly not as good as a duelist as he was with Force knowledge. Untrained sporadic swings, none of the seven forms present in his fighting style, even his tantrum swings are unclean. It's not uncommon for a Force user to be better in one aspect than they are the other. Obi-Wan was a competent Force user but was much better with a Lightsaber than he was with Force knowledge. Anakin was balanced but thought himself to be much better with a Lightsaber than he actually he was. Later on when he became Vader, that would change. Dooku and Windu are praised to be some of the best duelist ever seen and Ahsoka Tano was very skilled with Lightsabers at a very young age. Her Force application was decent but her unconventional and duel wielding combat style was hard to best. We see proof of this when she easily beats two Inquisitors that Erza and Kanan couldn't beat. For those who don't know, Ahsoka was Anakin's Padawan. Who is Supreme Leader Snoke? Where did he come from and how strong is he? Am I supposed to just accept that in the past 30 years, some new big bad became a Force monster and created the First Order? That's kind of a big pill to swallow and I hope they explain that in detail in the coming movies. Some people believe that Darth Plagius is the true identity of Snoke which isn't impossible but there really isn't any evidence for or against it. So I'll just leave it at that. However, it might make sense if this fan theory is true. The identity of Rey is a big mystery in this movie. But the movie strongly alludes that she is Luke's daughter. Anakin's Lightsaber is almost like a family heirloom at this point. Obi-Wan passed it off to Luke and then the weapon called to Rey. Part of me wants to beleive that it is a Saber that only calls to those with Anakin's DNA. Maz Kanata also tells her that, the belonging she seeks in not in her past, but in her future. What does that mean? That the person or persons she's waiting for on Jakku are not coming back there and to find them, she must embrace her destiny and move forward. So while Luke is the obvious answer, I also think it makes the most sense. Luke was ultimately as strong or stronger than Anakin so it would make sense that Luke's kid is as strong or stronger than him. Let's talk about Luke for a bit. What's up with him? Why did he rage quit and leave the galaxy in chaos? I have a bit of a theory. First of all, Luke was always a quitter. YES, your hero Luke often doubted himself in the original trilogy, so miss me with "that's not Luke, Luke wouldn't do that." He would and he has. He rejected his initial call to action but only went with Obi-Wan after his family was killed. He constantly doubts himself when training with Yoda, especially when he has to raise that ship out of the water. He then leaves before finishing his training, gets smoked by Vader and runs. This would be a different story in the Expanded Universe if Master Luke was canon but it is not. I think it was too much for Luke to handle. He redeems his father and starts training Jedi, something he's not even qualified to do. I assume he had the Force Ghost of Anakin, Yoda and Obi-Wan to consult at times but he was on his own. Now, your nephew turns to the Dark Side and with the Knights of Ren, murders everyone you were training. But that's not all, I beleive in the midst of all that, whoever Luke was romantically invovled with died as well. So he left it all behind and became the "strange old hermit" he once called "Ben Kenobi". It's also interesting to note that Ben Solo is essentially a combination of Jacen Solo and Ben Skywalker from the EU while also being consistent with the fact that in the EU, lots of Luke's students get seduced by the Dark Side. We've still got a lot of unanswered questions left like why Ren chose to construct his Lightsaber the way he did, what happened with Han and Leia and why/how Ben Solo got turned to the Dark Side. But now let's talk about what I hope to see. The Force Awakens played it safe, reestablished the franchise with the tone and feel we love. Time for something new. Deviate from the sequels, the prequels and become a brand new Star Wars story like no one's ever seen before. They've laid down the groundwork and now it's time to build off of the great foundation.
I'm not entirely sure where the story is going to go but, I hope to see a trained Rey and Ren. Ren needs to control himself better and learn from his defeat. Rey needs to tap into her latent powers and bring Luke back. Assuming Luke is even willing to train her. But I find that he probably will or else why leave a map to where you're hiding? I want to see some flashbacks about some of the events that have taken place in the last 30 years. I also want to know how strong Luke became and if he's fully realized his Force potential like he does in Star Wars Legends. Grandmaster Luke is broken. I need more Poe x Finn bromance. Finn and Poe need to become the leading forces of the Rebellion and be the figure heads. Maybe Finn learns from Poe how to fly and maybe becomes a General. I'm a little sad he's not a Jedi but, I still love Finn and think he has a crucial role to play. Captain Phasma needs to redeem herself and not go the way of Jango or Boba Fett. Boba Fett has great feats in the cartoon and EU, but is the most overrated character from the original movies. He really didn't do much and I never understood why so many fans loved him. Ultimately, the onslaught of Star Wars movies we have coming up has started off great. Episode 8, 9, Star War Rouges, the Boba Fett movie (I think) and the Han Solo movie. Hoping for greatness. RWBY has hit its mid-season finale and my, that was quite the cliff-hanger. The plot has taken some significant strides and it’s rather impressive. The show often receives criticism for its predictable, straight forward and lackluster plot. While I personally don’t think the story is particularly bad (just simple), this web-series thrives off of its characters, humor and action( emphasis on the action). Either way, it’s enjoyable to tons and will continue to remain relevant for years to come. This season kicked off the Vytal Festival with an awesome showdown between Team RWBY and ABRN. Team RWBY was successful in the first round (the round four). Team RWBY then celebrated with some bowl of ramen where Weiss’ card got declined after she ignored a call from her father. Team JNPR would go on to win their match too. Team SSSN barely defeats the beautiful Team NDGO. Qrow is seen in a bar and when an Atlas ship belonging to Winter Schnee arrives at Beacon, he leaves to confront her. Weiss and Winter reunite but is interrupted by Qrow. Qrow and Winter engage in an epic battle on school grounds but Qrow stands down just in time for Winter's superior, General Ironwood, to catch her attacking someone "defenseless". Ruby and Qrow also see each other again for the first time in a while, then Qrow goes off to talk to Ozpin, Glynda and Ironwood about important Hunter business. He mentions that someone named Autumn (Ember?) got attacked which makes little to no sense at the time. The tournament continues, showing off some of the other teams, especially the prowess of Emerald and Mercury. They easily defeated Coco and Yatsuhashi, two renowned Beacon seniors. Qrow spends some time with his nieces and gives them important advice before heading back out. Weiss & Yang face off against Flint & Neon, an interesting duo that our girls barely manage to beat. AND that brings us to our most recent episode. Ozpin brings Pyrrah into his office and asks her for her favorite fairy tale. They go through a few and ultimately end up talking about the story of the Four Maidens, who become the four seasons. Ozpin then claims that this tale is no myth, but truth. That the seasons need a guardian to inherit them. Pyrrah may be the Maiden of Fall and the current Fall Maiden was attacked by who we can assume was Cinder Fall. The process for passing on the powers of a Maiden into the next host is still relatively vague and complicated but the power generally transfers to the last person the current maiden was thinking about. Ozpin, Glynda, Qrow and Ironwood fear that the powers will transfer to the attacker. Ironwood has in theory, figured out a way to forcibly transfer the current Maiden's power to Pyrrah, but at a cost. Their lives will be bound and there’s no guarantee Pyrrah will be the same person after the process. The 1v1 finals start with Yang vs Mercury. After a short but sweet battle Yang ends up winning but, Mercury attacks her after the match, forcing Yang to defend herself. She breaks his leg. The Atlas military surround Yang much to Yang’s confusion. Turns out she attacked defenseless Mercury for no apparent reason, shocking and scarring all the people watching. The Grimm sense the negative emotions and the episode ends with Yang’s panicked face. As you can see, episode 6 introduced quite a bit. I find that this season has been the strongest so far in terms of trying to push the narrative forward. Introducing the older characters, diving into the main conflict, showing off more Semblances and having a twist ending with the latest episode. Yang and Pyrrah both have important moments coming up soon. Qrow and Winter have been great additions to the cast . Qrow, the drunken foul mouth uncle who cares about his nieces and Kingdom. Then there is Winter; the stuck up, prim and proper older sister who loves her little sister. Personally I relate to Qrow because I too have multiple nieces and my relationship with them is similar to there's. Moving on, we can assume that Pyrrah will have a hard time concentrating on her upcoming battles in the fighting tournament. With a decision this heavy weighing on her mind, it would be hard to not be distracted. And Yang. My poor baby got framed. It's evident that someone on Cinder's team has illusion based powers, presumably Emerald. She used them during the match to make Yang think Mercury was attacking her while in reality, she attacked him for no reason.
What's next to come? I speculate that Pyrrah will fight next and either lose or barely win assuming the fighting continues. The Grimm have sensed all the negativity from the people of Remnant and it's possible they might attack. If not, we can assume Yang will be arrested or/and expelled/suspended. The question is that does her act disqualify Team RWBY or can someone else take her spot and continue to fight on? SO much to speculate but we'll have to wait until January 2nd, 2016 for episode 7. Make sure to watch the RWBY podcast this week and the World of Remnant episode on the 26th. #FreeYang2016 #DontDoItPyrrah2016 |
